Long Ridge Equity? vs. IB
Anyone know about the comp / exits here? In the processes for this and mid BB (barclays/ubs/rbc type) and not sure which to choose. Growth equity seems cool and very into tech, but not just into fintech/enterprise tech, so maybe i should do ib and then growth / pe after? not sure, team at long ridge seems great and everyone's in it for the long run.
When considering a career path between Long Ridge Equity and a mid-tier investment bank like Barclays, UBS, or RBC, it's essential to weigh your interests, career goals, and the kind of work environment you thrive in. Based on the WSO Dataset, here are some factors to consider:
Compensation: While specific compensation figures for Long Ridge Equity aren't provided in the context, investment banking roles generally offer competitive salaries with significant bonus potential. For September 2023, the total average compensation in investment banking ranges from $94,000 for Intern/Summer Analysts to $592,000 for Directors/MDs.
Exit Opportunities: Investment banking is renowned for its robust exit opportunities, including roles in private equity, venture capital, and corporate strategy. The skills and network you develop in IB can be highly transferable and valuable in various sectors, including tech and fintech.
Work Environment and Culture: Growth equity firms like Long Ridge Equity often provide a more focused approach on specific sectors (in this case, tech and fintech) and might offer a closer working relationship with portfolio companies. If you have a strong interest in tech and prefer a potentially smaller, more tight-knit team, Long Ridge Equity could be appealing.
Long-Term Career Goals: Consider where you see yourself in the long run. If you're passionate about tech and growth equity, starting directly in that field could give you a head start. However, if you're still exploring your options or seek a broader finance foundation, investment banking might offer more versatility and a wider array of exit opportunities.
Professional Growth Opportunities: The context mentions several investment banks with high professional growth opportunities, indicating a supportive environment for career advancement. While not explicitly mentioned, growth equity firms like Long Ridge Equity can also offer significant growth opportunities, especially if you're joining a team where everyone is "in it for the long run."
In summary, your decision should align with your career aspirations, preferred work environment, and the sectors you're most interested in. Both paths offer valuable experiences and opportunities, but the right choice depends on your personal and professional goals.
