Reaching out to PE Associates Prior to On Cycle
With rumors being that on cycle will happen sometime late winter/early spring, does it make sense to start reaching out to associates at firms you’re interested in after the new year? More focused on MM shops than MFs as I suspect that will change potential answers.
Bump
Curious also
Usually can't hurt (hard to come across poorly on a networking call unless you're overly scripted).
Outcome 1: Associate is plugged into recruiting and can say a good word on your behalf (to various degrees of influence ranging from none to can tip the scale to a first round)
Outcome 2: Associate is not plugged into recruiting but you still learn something valuable
Outcome 3: You show poorly and the call is net negative
This probably sounds ridiculous but would it make sense to shoot emails this week to set up calls for next week? I know it’s a holiday week but that also means it’s a slower week so I feel like people would be open to responding. Let me know if my logic is completely flawed here
Overthinking it, that's fine, follow up after 7-8 days if no response (some guys taking holiday will miss email, others will see it)
Where are you hearing late winter? I’m in SEO and from what I’ve been hearing don’t be surprised if HHs start reaching out early January
I think if head hunters reach out in early Jan, then there's at least a month until interviews happen and likely more
I was told the process is looking to kick off late jan/early feb and ending closer to March but that was just one HH so I could be wrong. Would agree that HH reaching out to interviews will probably be a good 3-4 week gap due to virtual shit this year
Have headhunters started to reach out yet to first years?
Don’t want to be ignorant but what is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization
A lot of people are in SEO nowadays as other forms of advertising is overrated

Chance of the associate/PE employee to report us to our banks that we are yet to start at? I dont want to risk losing that because I wanted to recruit for PE early. I'm at a MM which appears to not have many people leaving for PE so theres a chance buyside recruiting is frowned upon
Yeah if I get a cold email from an incoming MM analyst, first thing I do is print it out, then send copies to his staffer, group head, and his head of HR. I’m on first-name basis with all of them (we go bowling on Thursdays).
It's true I'm the staffer, group head, and head of HR
