Bocconi VS Erasmus VS IE (Undergad - Target schools)
Hey!
I am a 1st year bachelor egineering student at Tu Delft (one of the best european engineering universities) but am going to switch to Finance (investment banking path), and economics related bachelor programmes.
I have been accepted to (all bachelors):
Erasmus Rotterdam (both: International Bachelor Economics & Business Economics and the dual bachelor dergee: econometrics and economics)
IE: Dual degree: Data & Business Analytics + BBA
Also some other Spanish univerity (ICADE) which is really well known in Spain, and regarded as the n1 target uni for spanish people.
I am in the application process of Bocconi (International Economics and Finance) but It is diffcult since this is the third and last round of applications, and 95% of places have already been given.
Ik all degrees have different names, but once you do an analysis of the actual courses you take, these are quite similar (all maths related economics/business)
I have a dillema as to which uni to select. If accepted to bocconi I would go to bocconi. But in the unfortunate event of being rejected, which should I choose?
Both are regarded as semi target, maybe erasmus a bit better for bachelors, but rotterdam in my opinion is a bit of a shithole compared to Madrid. If the pedigree of these two actually very different?
Thank you guys
Bocconi and Erasmus are the best. IE is by far the worst. The difference between IE and Erasmus is substantial than Erasmus and Bocconi. Especially if you are already living the Netherlands, it can help to be already there especially for housing. Good luck
Thank you for the reply. Is the difference really that big? Does it affect job opportunities substantially and how?
I would say yes. Plus, the Madrid ecosystem plus salary is much lower. So short answer YES
and in the case that Erasmus is that greater, which should I choose? Bachelor in business economics (IBEB) or dual degree in econometrics + economics (BSc^2)? The single degree is 3 years, the latter 4 years. Taking into account I have already "lost" a year, and that regarding econometrics: I am strong in maths but am not really fond of porgramming
depends if you want to study economics then go for IBEB for econometrics go for BSc2. One year is nothing plus IE is also 4 if I am not mistaken.
but then also you can get a master in one year so depends if you want to prolong your studies or you want to finish fast
I mean the thing is that:
- IBEB: is shorter, have more free time, is easier to get better grades, not much programming.
- BSc^2: graduate with two degrees, do IBEB + econometrics (so all benefits of economcs I still get), more prrstigious since it is more difficult, but since this is harder to get good grades, and potentially get into LSE/HEC... masters
I am looking into starting the dual degree and then potentially switching to the single degree if double is too demanding to get first class
Also, I was also going to apply to HSG (St gallen) but I would only go there if its is better than Erasmus (since it is a bit of a shithole as well).
only go there if you speak fluent german and want to stay there. St Gallen is worst of a shithole than Rotterdam aha
It depends on which languages you speak. If you speak Spanish choose ICADE (don't go to IE for undergrad) and if you speak Dutch go to Erasmus. I may be wrong but I think that if you study at ICADE recruiting in Spain will be a bit easier than recruiting in the Netherlands if you study at Erasmus. I am currently studying at RSM and I'm finding recruiting quite hard in the current market.
The thing is I speak both languages, but in the long term future dont want to live in the netherlands for sure, and Spain is a maybe. I am planning on getting 2/3 years of experience and then go on to do a masters at a top target uni (preferrably UK). The thing is I really dont look forward to living in R'dam. But oh well. By the way, what are you studying in ESE?
I am studying Finance and Investments. I don't find Rotterdam as bad as people say, but of course Madrid is much better. If you have money you'll enjoy your student life in Madrid for sure, and studying at ICADE you can get some good intenships.
Recruiting might be harder in the beginning but long term you will earn way more in the NL than in Spain (studied in the NL but living in spain now). I earn 2 times less than my friends in Paris or Amsterdam for the same job. I am French by the way ;)
You're right, that's why I would like to start my career in the Netherlands, but with the current market I am also considering Madrid.
