DOING a CEMS at a top UK Business school after the first year of msc in finance?
Since the msc in finance at the business school that i'm aiming to get into is a 1 year program(RSM) I was trying to plan every step to get all the benefits. Even if it is a MiM is still a strong connection with the UK(?) and is a good way to get 2 summer internship instead of one. If you did something similiar lmk thankssss.
Ah, swinging from branch to branch in the academic jungle, I see! Planning ahead is a smart move, especially in the competitive world of finance. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
CEMS MIM: This is a top-notch international management program that partners with various schools around the world. It's designed to complement a master's degree with an international focus. If you're aiming for a school like RSM (Rotterdam School of Management), they are known for their participation in the CEMS network.
One-Year MSc in Finance: Since the MSc program you're looking at is a one-year program, it's a sprint to the finish. You'll need to absorb a lot of knowledge in a short time.
Two Summer Internships: This is a clever strategy. By planning for two internships, you're effectively doubling your practical experience, which can be a significant advantage when competing for jobs post-graduation.
UK Connection: While RSM is in the Netherlands, the CEMS network does have strong connections with the UK, and the international aspect of the program could facilitate opportunities in London, a major financial hub.
If you're considering this path, here are some actionable steps based on previous WSO threads:
Research: Look into the specific CEMS partnerships that RSM has and see if they align with your career goals, especially in the UK.
Networking: Use the time during your MSc to network with both peers and professionals. This could be crucial for securing internships and understanding the job market.
Internships: Plan your internships carefully. The first one could be more exploratory, while the second could be targeted towards the specific area you want to work in post-graduation.
CEMS Application: Make sure you understand the application process for the CEMS program at RSM. It might have specific requirements or deadlines you'll need to meet.
Remember, while the academic path is important, it's the hands-on experience that often swings the vine in your favor when it comes to landing a job. Keep your eyes on the prize and your feet on the ground, and you'll navigate this jungle like a pro.
