Student at Emory that recruited and landed offer at BB/EB. Here’s my objective stance:

Almost every IB placement is within the realm of possibility; no one will frown at an Emory resume and an Emory student that networked will receive at least an interview everywhere (with a strong resume). Specifically have strong networks at EBs like LAZ, CVP, GHL.

In terms of how competitive it is in the B School: very. Most will agree it’s pretty toxic, but that’s the name of the game at each school. You will need to stand out among the group. But everyone lands a role somewhere in the end.

Emory University is recognized for its strong placement in investment banking (IB) and buyside roles, making it a standout choice for students aiming for careers in high finance. Here's a detailed breakdown based on the WSO Dataset:

  1. Placement into IB and Buyside Roles:

    • Emory has established itself as a significant feeder for IB, PE (Private Equity), REPE (Real Estate Private Equity), HF (Hedge Funds), and AM (Asset Management) roles. The university's finance program is specifically designed to enhance the placement of its graduates into these competitive sectors. This focus is reflected in the curriculum restructuring aimed at increasing the annual placement of graduates into high-finance roles.
    • The school's reputation and strong alumni network in the finance industry play a crucial role in facilitating these placements. Emory's strategic location in the South also offers unique networking opportunities and access to regional finance hubs, which can be advantageous for students looking to enter the finance industry.
  2. Competitiveness of Recruiting:

    • Recruiting for IB and buyside roles is inherently competitive, and Emory is no exception. However, the university's dedicated finance programs and the proactive approach of its career services can provide students with the necessary tools and guidance to navigate this competitive landscape effectively.
    • The emphasis on practical skills, such as financial modeling and valuation, alongside the theoretical aspects of finance, prepares Emory students well for the rigorous recruitment processes they will face. Additionally, the selective nature of certain programs and clubs related to finance and investment banking at Emory can help students stand out in the recruitment process.

In summary, Emory's strong focus on finance and its successful placement record in IB and buyside roles make it an attractive option for students pursuing careers in these fields. The competitive nature of recruiting in these sectors is mitigated by the university's comprehensive preparation and support for its students.
