uMich is a great school, so yes, I would do it.
Are you a current freshman or sophomore? And what's your SA stint - F500 corpfin, IBD, S&T, AM etc.?
I went to UMich. About half of my friends majored in Econ, and a large number of them went on to top 10 MBA programs. Most of them went into consulting after that, but a few went into Banking. So yes, Michigan is a good bet to get you where you want to go.
A Michigan education is top class and recruiters know that. You'll be fine. Public ivy grads are highly regarded.

I worked at a MM investment bank at the tech branch so I am not sure if I need to transfer in order to break in. In terms of the school I am in right now, its a UC and its known as the UC reject school if you guys happen to know, so in terms of academics transferring will be a huge jump.
I am currently a junior so I am transferring extremely late, going in Winter 2012 so I will push my graduation date all the way back to June 2014... Will that be a problem?
I go to Ohio State- I got a FT without an SA stint in a top MM (HW/Baird/Blair/HL)
^^^^ nice I know also I know 5 people in the last 3 years that work FT FO at GS ( that I am trying to network with, and 2 of my friends who are going to GS this year when school ends, (1 is ER, another is IBD), so I mean its possible.

I've been told that 6+ years for a degree is looked down upon (It'll take me 7 though cause I changed between two completely different majors after taking a year off for personal reasons... haha)
So... I doubt it would be a problem... but then again, I'm just basing this off of stuff I've read on this site, so I could be very wrong
I think a degree from UMich would be worth it over the lesser UC schools... hope you're ready for some cold ass winters
How cold is Michigan. I am in the desert area of Socal so the weather varies between 90 to 60 degrees...
But Ive been to NY in the winter and it was not pleasant. Is Ann Arbor a nice city?
Well somebody in another thread said it's run down, but I like it and don't really agree, have you ever visited?... most reviews I've read of Ann Arbor or U of M's campus were really good, except for the one guy in the other thread.
And it gets cold as balls, but it could get colder so suck it up haha... I've lived in Michigan my whole life and I can't even give you an accurate estimate of the lows of winters... I'd say maybe around 10 degrees F is around the lowest it will go on a not-so-rare basis, but I could be completely wrong and I don't feel like looking it up. You'll get used to the cold. One winter I was working at a place where I'd always have to go outside for a smoke break, I started there in the fall when a jacket was all you needed, by the time winter came around I was going outside smoking cigs with a light ass jacket on not even realizing that it was 25 degrees out.
Just try to live somewhere where buses come because I would imagine walking through some of the snow MI gets would suuuuck, though I've heard that they're pretty good with keeping the sidewalks clean because people ride bikes year 'round... and as far as the city surrounding campus, there's restaurants, bars, fast food establishments, and the like galore right across the street.... there's a couple of head shops too (42 degrees has some amazing glass, even a nonsmoker could appreciate how awesome they look). I'd recommend visiting the campus, even though even if you didn't like it, I'd still say to suck it up cause the school's a pretty nice school to have a degree from...
^^ yea sometimes in Ohio/Mich its gets below 0 with windshield, so its burrrr, but in your situation it is worth it!
Is it a good place to have a car? Im not sure if I should drive my car all the way there... Id probably needs some snow tires...
