These schools are generally only going to attract regional offices / companies. You can still recruit for MBB or IBD, but its generally going to be for the closest office, i.e. Dallas for SMU, Houston or Dallas for A&M, etc.

Of course, if you really kill it in recruiting and networking, you can open doors to a national or international office. Alternatively, maybe you work at the local office for 1-2 years post-MBA and then transfer. The saying "never say never" applies. While anything is possible, these schools aren't going to place as well as a top program, so you'll have to network really hard. You can't rely on the career services offices to open those doors.

Alright but would you say that in terms of placement in their respective regions, they do better than the semi-targets in the uk? Let's say "smu,a&m,tulane etc. > durham, notts"?

Sorry to tell you, but MBB is going to be very very hard from those schools. The recruiting at those schools is not good enough. IBD is possible, as long as you plan settling for a boutique or mid market initially. BB straight out of those schools without relevant work exp in the industry is going to be hard, but not harder than MBB. Why don't you have a look at schools like Georgetown, UNC, Vanderbilt, USC? I assume this is about an undergrad, right?

Actually I will apply to gtown, usc, nw, cornell etc. I just want to have some "safe" schools, if I get rejected from my target and reach schools. I just want to be safe for the "worst case" possible.

For oil and gas (i.e.: Houston), A&M is an explicit target, with every EB and BB recruiting at Mays. In my year, something like 20-30 kids ended up in 'ideal' ibd jobs. There were more interns, but a lot decided they didn't like IB. MBB is also possible, but they do love engineering students a bit more. Deloitte, Strategy&, Accenture, etc are all easy to break into from A&M. Can't speak to SMU, though I do know a few grads who complained of IBD and consulting recruiting.

but where is tulane? and how does Wake Forest compare to them? are there other schools which are as "easy" as them to get into and at least a semi target?

Based upon the questions you're asking, I'm going to suggest that you do a lot more research and thinking before applying to programs. It doesn't sound like you've given the decision much thought.

If you're just looking for the easiest programs to get into you might be very disappointed at graduation. Getting a MBA is not a guaranteed route to a good job. I have classmates that are still unemployed after graduating from a top 10 program.

It's not regarding the MBA, we're talking about undergrad and I actually did my fair amount of research, but as an international I'm going to apply to much more school than domestic applicants.

On the topic of smu if u get into their alternative investments program you will greatly increase your chances of landing Ibd. I'm a high school senior too if you have any questions shoot me a pm
