Part-time MBA at uchicago

What's the part-time MBA program at uchicago like, mainly in terms of career placement? I know a lot of people who go there return to their original employers, but what's the situation like for people looking to switch? One HUGE disadvantage of this program is that students don't get access to on-campus recruiting.

I cant comment on Booth. but i am doing a pt program at Ross with the intention of switching careers. At Ross, pt students do have access to OCR so that is a huge plus. But i still plan on doing a lot of networking and reaching out to alums. You will at the bare minimum have the prestige factor...so though it will take more work on your part, i'm sure you wont have issues at least getting a foot in the door.

If you want to switch careers, then why don't you apply to the full-time program? What career, specifically, are you interested in moving into?

I applied to the full-time program 2 years ago and was denied. I'm gonna apply again this upcoming year for one last time, but am thinking of applying part-time if i don't get in. uchicago's pt program accepts people like 3 or 4 times a year.

I currently work as a trader for a small fund here in Chicago and want to move to a S&T desk at a BB in NYC. I think going to a top MBA program is the best way to make that transition.

I don't believe you will be able to make it to a BB S&T desk directly from Booth's PT program. Maybe a few years down the road with the network? There are plenty of Booth FT that get denied from BB S&T, going through OCR. IMO if you want to career switch, especially into industries that are heavy feeders from top MBA programs, then go full-time to the best school you can get into. Plenty of Booth PT are disillusioned because they thought they could career switch, and it's definitely easier to get into PT, but they aren't successful b/c PT is not for career switchers.

This was my initial impression as well. It seems like a lot of PT people at booth went because their companies paid for it. Not sure how useful it would be for someone like me.

I heard BB S&T desks only extended 5 internship offers to first-years at uchicago full-time. A guy who used to work at my firm managed to get one of those slots. Really surprised that uchicago, a finance powerhouse, did so poorly in S&T placement. It must be even worse for hedge funds and private equity.

You heard wrong. Don't know the exact number, maybe teens or even twenties, but there were many firms that extended multiple offers for S&T. Not saying it's easy, but for most that were truly interested and well qualified, recruiting was successful.
