PhD in Econ/Finance
Hey, has anyone here pursued a PhD in Econ or Finance? What did your application consist of and does experience at an investment bank help? Specifically what roles? I'm assuming research is a big part of it.

Career Resources
Haven't pursued, but know many finance & econ PhDs from different past experiences.
Most of them have no private sector experience before getting the PhD. Most of them are straight through, and some work in think-tank or public sector kind of roles. And a few of them did the a post-college analyst stint (either in IB or something else) but this is the minority by far. Not typical.
I'm considering applying, but I work at a bank and I am also getting a masters degree at the same time. I was hoping to apply to a doctorate program after completing my degree. I was hoping real world exposure would help me develop research ideas.
I have a Ph.D. in Economics, from before I joined MBB. I have many friends who also specialised in financial economics research, so happy to answer some questions if you want to.
What did your application look like and how did you know what you wanted to write your dissertation on?
