Your Hit Rate on the GMAT
Hey guys,
Im averaging low 80% correct rate on my timed OG guide problems (All Verbal + Quant PS questions).
However, my Data Sufficiency is looking horrible though, the first 50 , I got 82% correct, and those are just the EASY questions!!
anyways, I'm real dumb when it comes to standardized tests (got 530 and 600 on practice mgmat so far) for the guys scoring in the 700's what are your hit rates like on the practice problems?
thanks
I remember starting at around ~500 the first time I took a practice. Right before the test I took a practice test and got around a ~650. I scored a 710.
My working theory is that they make the practice tests harder in order to scare people into buying the Kaplan programs and whatnot.
My hit rate on the official guide BOOKS, within 24 hours prior to taking the test, was near 100%. This was exclusively with the hard problems. I found the actual test to be equal or slightly more challenging. Some of the verbal questions i got on the test were harder than I had ever seen before. Ended up scoring a 760.
My experience was similar. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your score on the first couple practice tests is bound to be a bit low because you haven't gotten used to the questions yet. Also, the scoring on the Kaplan practice exams is erratic, they aren't nearly as well written as the official ones. I would do a couple more, then do an official GMAC practice and see what you get. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.
damn the Data Sufficiency problems are a real bitch! so far after 90 problems im at 77% hit rate :(
how do you guys tackle the DS??
I did 80-90 on the kaplan cd problem sets throughout the ranks, then got 790 on actual GMAT. Did 750-780 in official practice tests, first practice test without having seen GMAT before was 700 or so with atrocious data sufficiency. Ignore kaplan results for the most part its much more difficult/confusing than actual GMAT questions, also ignore any data sufficiency hit rate initially as they are just test taking technique thats learned over time.
