Anyone else scared of the trading floor?
I'm a visible minority (African) in ER at a not so diverse bank (think Swiss, German, French and British bankers as far as the eye can see) and the trading floor intimidates me. It's like a frat house, except everyone there are all "old money", tall, attractive, caucasian/anglo-saxon males in their mid to late 20s.
The vibrations there are definitely not positive, since it's like a bullpen had a kid with a locker room and a frat house during hoco. I'm talking alcohol, cocaine, adderall and other drugs I can't even recognize being passed around in the open, along with frequent screaming matches and throwing of chairs, keyboards, desks and stationery.
Is this a universal experience or is it just my bank?
Which bank/market are you in?
Asking for a friend since he wants to join.
Seems like a credit floor, they seem to have a old school fratty culture (excluding derivatives and exotic folks as they are more cerebral )
Good news, plenty of people are hiring
.
This dude has posted a bunch of troll stuff ignore this
People are doing drugs openly on the floor? Trolll
Yes, no idea what soy bank you're at where the S&T kids are geeks
Says the soyboy who cries to strangers because someone threw a keyboard
What you are describing (chair throwing, keyboard smashing, drug abuse) sounds more like a movie about a trading floor than a real trading floor. Assuming this is real, pretty much anywhere else you go will be different than your experience (much more corporate and politically correct nowadays).
