Flat near Canary Wharf

Hi,

My potential flatmate canceled last minute on me. As I am moving to London this week, I need to find a studio apartment or a room.

Anyone has any suggestions on the agencies nearby Canary Wharf area? Also, if someone has an invite to asmallworld.net I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Foxstons are good with regards to customer service while you're living there, but they will screw you on costs / deposit. I'm still trying to get £800 of my deposit back from them. Also, they charge around £400 in fees once you've signed the contract.

That seems similar with all estate agents in London though, friend of mine has lived in 3 different places and every single one has tried to take his deposit. It depends more on the landlord than the estate agent I guess!

If you can hold off on moving for about a month for whatever reason and might be interested in sharing - pm me, otherwise best of luck!

EDIT: - BEWARE of any estate agent who tries to charge you a fee to take it off the market, and then claim this fee will simply be deducted from the amount you have to pay in deposit. It's probably genuine but if you decide to back out, they keep the fee.

Still need the invite for asmallworld?

'Oh, yeah, that's right. That's what's it's all about, all right. But talkin' about it and bein' it, that's two different things.'

Hey DME, what age range are you in? If you're just a young analyst I would avoid wasting £400 on Foxtons and use spareroom.co.uk. If you're just looking for a room or a studio this is the place to go. Just type in E14 postcode for the Wharf and check out all the properties. Its free and you deal with landlord's directly. Also, if you do decide to use an agency, negotiate hard on the fees, tell them you wont pay more than £200. These agencies usually take 10% of the rent you pay so they will forego the fees to get you in the room and get that 10%. I just moved into a new place on the DLR using Royal Docks Property, they were good and I only paid £150 for their services.
