Trans Market Group Trader Intern
Anyone ever interviewed/.know anyone who has interviewed with this firm: transmarketgroup.com (in Chicago). Heres the role: http://www.transmarketgroup.com/int1.html
Are they good? How can I prepare? Anything they ask in particular? Or the typical - why us, why you, why this position?
Its a 30-60 minuite interview so I'm guessing my view on the market is important? Any ideas of where I can get a good opinion from (I do read the news but dont know everything about Options, Bonds etc)? Also, it is a USA based firm so do I need to know stuff about the US economy?
Any help would be great!!!!
do you have any idea what group or product youll be trading there?
know calculus and statistics.
PM sent.
Nope I just sent my application and they want to interview me.... Didn't say what desk
Know calculus and stats? What do you mean?
I mean know your maths first. I think they have quite a list of questions to ask.. Did they not mention they will ask you basic math and finance?
Nope they didn't mention anything... they just said its a 30-60 minute phone call :S Any examples of questions would be great (and thanks again JohnAnthony7 for your PM!)
specific questions? Know how to integrate equations.. derivatives.. etc. They may have changed a few things, but they emphasize mathematics.. have a sheet of paper and a pencil ready just in case.. chances are that you will be asked those questions. The idea is that you will explain the process step by step.
JohnAnthony7 - wh did you block me? if you didn't want more emails i would have stopped... be nice. its my first ever trading interview :S
Interview are easy until they give you some take home problems. They sucked.
They give you a list of problems to solve within 24 hours. They're not that easy unless you have a solid background in derivatives.
I see. Is ths for the internship positon too?
Yeah. That's where I stopped in the interview process. I didn't even understand much of the terminology let alone answer their questions.
I see. Thanks for the heads up!
same here. i have no idea why they use a take home test like that, because some of the questions seem....lazily worded, or there is no correct answer.
For example, one of the question had something to do with commodities, and what is the market impact on outright price from speculators, hedge funds, etc. Someone like me, who has no training in commodity economics can only guess without frantically googling.
what sucks is theres people out there who know these things :S
My experience with TransMarket Group:
1) question 1 i answer correctly (maths logic question) 2) question 2 i understood the trick and logic behind the question but messed up the numbers 3) question 3 was a hard probability question i just couldn't figure out. i only figured out one part of the question.
Guy said you don't know probability (even though i study stats at a top uni and couldn't get my head around this one question). Fair enough.
That was it. No why this firm. No mental math. No finance related ques. Nothing really that any other WSO monkey/google mentioned. All of the above were brand new maths questions not in the 'Heard on the Street' book or anything. I reckon either calling me was just a courtesy call or I must have really sucked. haha Either way - not too bummed about it.
Did you hear anything back from Transmarket? Just out curiosity...
