Canada Growth Equity Exits

Hi everyone, currently headed to growth equity (think of crown corp.) right out of undergrad and trying to figure out what traditional exits and long-term comp looks like in the space.

Is it possible to exit/lateral for GE over in the US at a top shop I.e. GA or Insight?

What do exists look like (no banking)?

Long-term comp. tragectory? Any GE firms in Canada give carry?

Thanks in advance!

If you're going where I think you're going (crown corp), my opinion is that likelihood of US GE is not super high but not impossible.

The two I'm thinking of often work on a "matching" basis where (depending on which fund/group it falls to) they won't lead but piggyback on the diligence of a lead. Will give you tons of networking opps with non crown GE.

Growth IS the exit. You likely will not be grinding it out like bankers or large buyout PEs and unless your fund has told you that its a 2 and out (unlikely), growth is not a place people go to "exit" from in the traditional sense of the term (i.e., exiting to better WLB, more sustainable long term career). If you're talking about where you could go if you did want a career change, depending on exactly what type of investing your fund does (lead, co-invest, etc.), you could lateral to other GEs, go earlier stage in VC-land, go to a fund-of-funds or join a early-stage company. There are plenty of doors open but again caveat this depends on the actual type of work you do; you're less likely to lateral to a fund that leads (Summit, Insight) if you'll only be co-investing and doing follow on deals and have little to no exposure doing diligence or interacting with management.
