VC to PE/HF?

Last year, I left banking early (top EB) to join an upstart venture firm. While I have had a great time at the firm and have no plans to leave anytime soon, I have been thinking about next steps. I am interested in potentially joining a more institutional asset manager (whether it be private or public markets, but preference towards private). I am not interested in joining a MF or even UMM, but instead have carved out a niche industry that interests me. At my current fund, I have been in a role with considerable deal exposure.

I am curious to see if anyone has done a similar VC --> PE jump and if so, how was that process vs. a traditional on-cycle recruitment?
