I'm not doing PWM the summer after freshman year. Am I screwed? What do I do?

I'm currently a freshman who's gonna be a revenue analyst this summer. I've talked to an MD from UBS willing to give me a PWM internship next summer, but I was told that PWM is what I should do freshman summer, and that I should be doing PE/VC/IB my sophomore summer if I want to do IB junior year summer and progress to FT. What options should I be looking at next summer and what should I do right now?

Thanks!

You're straight man. I worked retail the summer before my junior year and ended up in MM IB for this summer. I would focus on keeping a high gpa, being a leader in extracurriculars/club sports, and expanding your network.
