Morgan Stanley Smith Barney = Morgan Stanley PWM Summer Analyst
Ok...
So I was wondering, a friend of mine accepted an offer with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney...
Would it be accurate to leave off Smith Barney and put on his resume:
Morgan Stanley
Private Wealth Management Summer Analyst
Afterall, Smith Barney is part of Morgan Stanley's wealth management, right?
By the way, my friend isn't me. I'm trying to convince him that its not accurate, but he believes otherwise. Perhaps seeing it on an internet forum will help convince him.
lol, he is working at a branch... welcome to Smith Barney.
I am not positive, but I am pretty sure wealth management is broken up into different types of networth. PWM tends to be with individual clients with networth of 1m +. if he is with MS Smith Barney it is prob with the branch wealth management. He can put MS on his resume since it is really up to him to represent himself in anyway he wants however, he wont really learn too much during the stint and recruiters know that
He needs to put the whole thing nso that when they do a check they don't think he has misrepresented himself. besides the interviewers will figure out he worked at smith barney anyways
branch.
if it is PWM, they will say PWM or GWM. otherwise, just a brokerage internship in a branch.
The misinformation on this board never ceases to amaze me.
MS PWM is still under the MS brand. They are working on integrating some of the SB / Citi PWM offices but right now they are both operationally separate.
MSSB is local branch / retail. I don't think you can use MS or SB separate. MSSB doesn't have summer analyst positions at the branch level, they do at Westchester so that's also an issue. MS PWM Summer Analyst when really its MSSB GWM summer intern is a bit misleading.
It's a 50/50 venture with Citi. You are just as justified in putting MS on the resume as Citi (which is to say, not at all). It's like working for Chrysler and saying you did a stint at Cerberus.
