AIESEC Internships
Does anyone know if AIESEC is useful if you're trying to get an internship in finance? Not mainly for investment banking, but anything that is finance or somewhat related to get experience

Gotta be honest, I'm very interested in this. I had been working to go on a student exchange for the fall semester, but seeing as I would only have two classes left to my degree (which means I would have to take extra classes abroad to be full time), I started looking into international work and/or internships. Of course those internships would have to be relevant on my resume.
Very interested in this as I also started looking into AIESEC, I'm just hoping they have partnerships with decent companies, would love to work in Singapor (or Thailand) but I'm worried the experience would be irrelevant to employers back here in Canada.
Any input on this situation would be appreciated!
I'm currently doing an AIESEC internship with PwC (RAS/Advisory) so I can shed some light on this and answer any questions anybody has on the process / internships / etc.
First, my experience - I got access to the database and applied to 2 positions in my first week - one PwC, and one UBS. It's important to note that a lot of the legit positions here are really meant for graduated students or gap year kids since the duration is 6-12 months. Typically, they're used as recruiting tools as well in eastern european countries and elsewhere, since companies can have cheap labor without worrying about the visa issues.
Also note, to get the Europe visa as an American, it's kind of a pain in the ass. So you need to be a full-time student, need letters from your uni, etc. Singapore, Hong Kong, other country visas are a lot easier (you come on a student visa, so it's technically illegal, but it's not a problem)
For PwC, I had one 20 minute interview with an AIESEC member. Got my CV passed on to the final batch of 4. Had a 8 minute interview with PwC, and was selected an hour later. 3 weeks later I was on a plane for my 6 month gig.. So not a real robust interview process for me.
I'm essentially treated as a full-time associate here, but with a shitty non-full time salary that pays the bills (granted, the salaries in the country I'm in aren't that great to begin with). AIESEC will arrange the visa and should help you find an appt and what not. That's what their fee is for. (yes, you have to pay a fee - kind of bogus).
Since I started 4 months ago, my director asked if i'd be interested in staying full-time afterwards, so there is opportunity for full-time afterwards if that's something you're aiming for. I won't be staying on.
Overall, it is a legit organisation and opportunity if logistically it works for you. If I could do my university over I would've taken a semester off sophomore year to do something like this.

I was VP of Exchange at AIESEC. Basically I was in charge of recruiting students to go on Exchanges and finding local partners to accept interns from other countries.
AIESEC is legit. Finding banking internships is sort of impossible. The best internships are reserved for true AIESECers who have held some sort of leadership role.
When I was at AIESEC some of the global partner companies were UBS, PwC, CocaCola and Google. Still you could find in some countries internships with places such as Mckinsey.
Hi.. I am an international student currently in uk. I am planning to apply to GIP through AIESEC but am not sure of what sort of companies I will be placed. However, I am also looking for a full time position with the firm I intern after the GIP. Could you guys clear my doubts if I will b able to do it.?

Hey guys I've been accepted into the global citizen program for social entrepreneurship as a part of an organization called AIESEC. Basically I work abroad and work with social companies like the bill and Melinda gates foundation or microfinancers like kickstarter. I'm a freshman and I'm wondering if I should go ahead and shoot the puck on the offer. It seems like a great combo of study abroad with some work experience, but it would be more entrepreneurial than finance related. helped my friend get an internship in turkey. Its a pretty tight organization .
weird... helped my buddy get an internship in turkey as well. but he barely broke even... and it seemed like he did some pretty menial work.... where is your buddy from?
This is funny - my friend also got an internship at turkey through them. Do they place a lot of people in Turkey, or is this just a really really small world...haha
Anyways, back to the OP's question - they're a legit organization from what I understand. They place students well into places like Asia, Europe, and, apparently, Turkey. What's the membership fee like? I think it's worthwhile provided the fee isn't too large. Also, as one of the previous posters mentioned, AISEC people are a tight knit network, so it's a good network to have for a small price.
I believe my friend ended up spending like 7k during his stay in Turkey, and earned a thousand $ at most.. He liked the experience though and the people he met.
