Probably not. But I'm sure a deal like this would involve separation of the petro and advanced tech sections, with Apple looking mainly to acquire the know how and asset capabilities. McLaren makes so,e sense from a strategic/cultural standpoint, though, since they're very meticulous about the production of its cars, similar to Apple with electronic devices
I understand that. I also heard from a buddy that Apple is looking to buy F1? Not sure if that's a credible claim or not.
I could see it potentially preserving the uniqueness of the McLaren brand if the advanced tech Apple brought to the table was more on the 'E motor to the wheels' (if you will) technology that a lot of brands are using to pump up HP and agility off the line. It just kind of contradicts the current rumors of Apple building an electric car all else aside.

Yeah i have actually. I never said they weren't cool. Just saying there is a huge difference between anything "green" and the integrity of a supercar manufacturer like McLaren, although I understand those companies are looking to sources of extra (electric) power that we see in the 918, LaFerrari, etc.
It seems like the chances are pretty low to do this but i wouldn't like it for McClaren's sake. There's a different between creativity and innovation in the auto industry and creativity and innovation in the tech industry. If apple is looking to make a self driving car, would the McClaren models stop being made that can be driven by people?
The car's value would skyrocket then...
This would make the company a commodity in a way that will inevitably lead to boring commuter cars.

I think apple could do it just for the IP and engineers if they want to compete with google in the driverless car space, plus a 1-2bn price tag isnt going to change apple's bank account by much.
I'd hate it for ML's sake, can you imagine the next McLaren without headphone jack? Horrible.
