Wearing Deal Sleds or Loafers as an Intern

Would love to rock some this summer. Also any recommendations or guidelines in regards to the ankle hair? Trimmed?

Can I Wear Fancy Shoes as an Intern on Wall Street?

As a rule - you should be conservative when selecting your shoes as an intern. Even if junior analysts are wearing "deal sleds" - it is much safer to wear a basic, conservative shoe as there will be no one that will have an issue with you.

You likely should not come in on day one wearing the below shoes.

I was told bulge brackets have allowed as much as .835in as part of their analyst retention programs, but if someone wants to weigh in on EBs as well, that'd be great.

EBs guarantee as much as 0.85in; heard through the rumor-mill you can negotiate to 0.9in. But expect to be told what socks to wear.

"A man can convince anyone he's somebody else, but never himself."

Read the book: From Main Street to Wall Street - A Beginners Guide to Success On The Street.

It does a pretty good job of explaining what you should, and should not wear to the office.

Get any you want except for the super expensive ones....

For the record, as long as you're not super showy with your clothes people don't really care (and people on WSO make a bigger deal out of it than it is). I wore Burberry ties pretty often, and a tie bar every day, for example, and got the FT offer and had no issues

Honestly, just get some loafers you like. AE makes some good understand italian loafers. Go to Century 21 and pick up some good looking ones on clearance and you'll be good for the summer.

To the main point of the post though, no one cares what you dress like. Senior guys will not get "pissed off" by pretty much anything aside from you being stupid or not working hard.

We give offers to guys who intern and have more money than most MDs and also to charity cases. Don't be a d-bag and your clothes don't matter.

--There are stupid questions, so think first.
