Associate salaries - in London and impact of bonus legislation

Hi,

I'm fairly advanced in the interview process with 2 banks (non BB) based in London for research associate positions. I've looked at salary surveys and they suggest the base salary range is £45k - £60k.

Does this sound about right to anyone in a similar position? It seems like quite a big range.

Also, I've read a lot about base pay being put up in a lot of front office areas to get around the bonus legislation. As these salary surveys were probably conducted a little while back are these base salaries now too low? I've gone direct in both cases so don't have a recruitment consultant to do the negotiating for me.

Any advice much appreciated

FO analysts at BBs getting between 40-48 base this year. Associates you're looking closer to a £60k as standard from what I know. All at large banks though, so may be less at a smaller shop.

There's huge amounts of speculation about what will be done to try circumnavigate bonus legislation at the moment, since EU regulations haven't passed yet it's all a bit up in the air, but raising base seems to be one way, or some more esoteric way of paying people.
