Both Bain and THL are having a lot of difficulty raising their next big fund, but THL is in serious trouble.

In terms of culture, an associate I know at THL is miserable and feels underpaid. Also, I worked on an IPO exit for them in my banking days and wow their team was foul. The pricing call was probably the second-worst call I've ever been on. In short, the culture at THL seems terrible and I'd never want to work there.

Culture seems great at Bain. Associates seem happy, and they're certainly well fed. I've liked almost everyone I've met there.

I second seamless' insight about Bain Cap associates being quite happy with their job and lifestyle. The culture is great there.

All the Bain Cap guys pretty much go to HBS as well, if they choose to do so...

I don't see how that is a valid argument here.
