Boutique bank reneged my internship offer

Well the thing is I'll be starting my MBA this coming fall (actually beginning in August), so I was just trying to get some kind of gig before I start school. I worked as a product manager at an IT company for a couple years after my undergrad so I don't have any relevant experience. Do you think I have a shot at landing a nonpaid internship somewhere? I have read a lot about the industry and I've completed level 1 of DealMaven.

Its worth a shot, but it won't be easy.

If you're starting b-school in August, then consider this a blessing and do something fun over the summer. As long as you're going to a school where the banks come on campus to recruit, then your pre-MBA internships would have pretty limited value in recruiting anyway. Spend your time traveling or doing something else that you may never have the time to do again.

If you're not economically constrained, can you offer to work for free just so you can get some work experience under your belt?

Indenturedprimate - I figured that having some experience would definitely give me an edge when the banks come recruiting on campus, especially since I have no financial background other than a business minor-type program in my undergrad that consisted of 6 introductory classes covering various subjects.

numi - Actually I've considered that route as well. I don't think BB firms participate in this, but do you think the "bigger" boutiques offer this type of work?

you never know till you ask

BBs will not find your "work for free" offer attractive. Boutiques, on the other hand, often like it.
