Breaking in from F50 FP&A to Restructuring IB?
Hey Everyone,
I am currently a third year student and I previously interned at a Fortune 50 company this past summer as a Financial Planning and Analysis intern. When coming into this job I was the guy that wanted to live the too laid back life and now I regret that. The hours and lifestyle were good and the people I worked with were not terrible. My only and biggest problem with the work was that it wasn't very stimulating and the people I worked with weren't very "intellectual" as well and so I wasn't really challenged overall. Talking to the full time people there they had the same problems as well and I don't want to end up in a situation like that.
During this school year I had the chance to get in touch with some classmates that did IB gigs over the summer and with all the "negatives" aside they all said that it was a challenging and intellectually stimulating environment and that is the work environment I was seeking. At one point in my college career I considered IB but since I was seeking a more laid back life I scrapped the though of doing itl. ow I am reconsidering it again, more specifically the restructuring side of Investment Banking which sounds really interesting. IB also makes sense because I would like to actually end up in Venture Capital later later on in life and from the consensus from the boards IB has good placement in that.
Recruiting for IB internships for next summer start in December/January at our school so it will be coming up really really soon. With this I was wondering will I be able to break into Restructuing IB considering I have a more corporate finance background (will I be able to leverage that experience?). Secondly If possible, if I start now and read all the recommended guides from WSO and other sites suggested on the board will it be enough by the time recruiting comes around? How many months do you guys recommending prepping for these interviews?
Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated
Thanks
