Can I get into top 20 schools with Private Equity/VC in mind?
I'm a tech heavy guy with 8 years of Computer Analyst experience. I always liked finance and recently started seriously thinking about career switch.
Rejected for Evening MBA program. Chicago GSB, and Emory.
GMAT: 640
GPA: 3.18
Computer Analyst experience: 8+yrs
What do you guys think, would a CFA charter boost my chances of getting in mid-tier top-25 Evening MBA schools? or may be I'm too much day-dreaming?
Help greatly appreciated
Ouch. Those are tough numbers. Not sure a CFA would help.
Also, remember that evening MBAs are often not viewed as equal to traditional MBA programs.
Finally, if you're already in your thirties and starting to think about getting an MBA, you're going to be a tough sell to bulge-bracket investment banks anyway, even if you are successful in your strategy to get in, and even if you successfully compete in b-school. I know there are some guys in my bank who graduated their MBA programs at age 29 and felt the need to hide their advanced age until they proved their worth. I think 26-27 is a more standard time to be exiting b-school... and when it comes to entering investment banking, you've got to adhere to the standards as much as possible. Otherwise, they wonder, "What's wrong with this guy? What was he doing for all those years? Why didn't he follow the normal career path?"
Shortsighted, yes... but that is the culture of the industry you want to enter.
