Do DCM/ECM analysts who work on a trading desk get some sort of office/cube as well, or do they do all their work on the desk. How about S & T analysts? It seems like the S & T guys would have less of a reason to have a separate cube, but I'm new to all of this and pretty ignorant of how things work. The capital markets guys I've talked to work around 9-9 and obviously the markets close early - so it seems that you wouldn't have to be sitting on the desk the whole day. Or is it not really as uncomfortable/tightly packed as I've been told?

Depends on the group. I
Depends on the group. I only interviewed for FT S&T with Goldman's FICC group. They all had cubes in Chicago. Goldman's PWM group in Chi was a true "desk" however. Bunch of rows of computers filled with bodies. I also saw first hand JPM's operations in Chicago. Standard trading desk. Multiple rows of seats with each person looking at about three screens.
I'm sure other BB's are different, depending on location even (I bet Goldman's FICC division in NYC is more of a true desk).
How about at Citigroup
How about at Citigroup specifically? Anyone know?
Thanks.
trading floors don't have
trading floors don't have cubes. so sales and trading functions both sit on desks. research will sometimes have cubes. this is true across banks.
it's not uncomfortable in a physical sense. the lack of privacy can require adjustment though.
citi as far as i know doesn't have a 401k match. that sucks,.
