cute female intern in your group....
I will be interning in New York at a BB doing IB this summer. I've gotten mixed opinions from people about how they think being an attractive female will impact my summer experience. Iâ€m curious how guys react to an attractive female intern in their group. Are they nicer to them? Do they hit on them? Just make inappropriate comments to other guys? Expect them to be stupid? Or just treat them the same as every other intern (this is what I am expecting)?
" I've gotten mixed opinions from people about how they think being an attractive female will impact my summer experience."
I doubt that you're that attractive. A big ego perhaps? Don't worry, you'll be overweight, permanently tired looking soon enough, so much so that your coworkers will never feel blood rush south. You'll get deathly pale, and find out that your favorite room is the bathroom.
You'll wonder why you didn't culture yourself and major in english literature and fine arts since you could've been trice as happy being a trophy wife. You'll wake up, and realize that you're a boring chick.
And...Not one of your interns will take you seriously and all the analysts and associates know that they hired you to be some token summer eye candy..you'll get the least responsibilies and end up being a tag-along tease. They know that you won't be serious in this industry and you'll probably go into advertising after this summer.
:)
You're a dumbass dude. The guys will think you're hot and hopefully hit on you. Just don't sleep with one of them, might screw up your chances.
is that nobody will care. As a female myself, I was surprised at how nobody ever gave a damn whether I tried dressing better or not, wore more or less makeup, or anything else I did.
"I was surprised at how nobody ever gave a damn whether I tried dressing better or not, wore more or less makeup, or anything else I did."
did they ever care? ever?
:)
It made a difference in college.
what size are you? what cup?
"Just don't sleep with one of them, might screw up your chances."
You mean improve those chances.
:)
sternfox, you are an idiot and an asshole. You contribute absolutely nothing and should be kicked off the forum.
That story is a true story, unfortunately. She's in advertising now.
make sure you sleep with a VP, not an intern
In all seriousness, you're not working at a firehouse. Believe it or not, but there are women in investment banking and most bankers have seen a girl before and can probably get one without permanent bags under their eyes.
I do agree that a lot of women interns switch career choices after doing an internship.
better yet, a very senior MD....of course, it might be horrifying and terribly wrinkly experience.
"I do agree that a lot of women interns switch career choices after doing an internship."
Yeah, it's not a woman's career. Especially if that said women wants a family someday.
i think the same can be said about a man.
there was a hot intern who everyone thought was a complete moron but she got an offer mostly due to her looks
yeah, seen that happen before. There's some added value to a useless, empty head, and it's the refreshing nice view of a token female.
hey bateman, your secretary, chloe sevigny, cute, no?
What about the male analysts in my group? A friend of mine (he did an internship at a BB) was trying to warn me about guys being sleazy, trying to get me to drink too much, etc. I've always thought the sleazy ibanking stereotype was mostly unfounded. Most of the guys I've met in IB haven't been like that at all, and I would assume the guys that are sleazy would know to keep that stuff out of work. Aren't guys like sternfox just a rare unfortunate exception?
Haha I love your women and marketing jokes. It's so new and original, did you think of it yourself?
Anyway, do really that many females decide not to do banking after their internship? That surprises me.
Wow, you have totally enlightened me today. Your one example is definitely proof that I will never make it in investment banking and that I am destined for a career in marketing. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I am surprised that females who do an internship would be less likely than males who do an internship to accept a full time job. I can understand why it's not the career path for some females, but I would think the females doing internships would at least have some kind of idea of the lifestyle. Does anyone have an opinion on this (besides sternfox who somehow believes he has a valuable opinion on everything)?
Don't listen to sternfox. He's probably a freshman at NYU who doesn't know the first thing about banking or social interaction. Women do fine in IB. I haven't seen any stats that show female interns accepting (or getting) FT offers less than men. Investment banking isn't a war and it isn't that demanding, intellectually or physically. I am being very serious here. Discard the sexist nonsenses that masquerades as information on this board and just do a good job.
sternfox's earlier comments betrayed a distinct lack of intelligence, eloquence and utility; that should've given you ample reason to ignore him.
My post was never about "making it in investment banking." I had just heard different thoughts on how attractive females were treated in investment banking. I assumed (but since I haven't worked there yet I don't know) that it wouldn't make a difference, and I was just curious what everyone else thought. Haha and please tell me where in any of my posts i was "scared of a few demeaning co-workers." I think if you read my original post you will see the word curious rather than the word scared.
" had just heard different thoughts on how attractive females were treated in investment banking"
Rather arrogant of you to bluntly say this, eh?
let's see your photo. Maybe you aren't that attractive and it won't be a problem.Maybe you won't even feel eyes moving across and over your body and none of your co-workers will fantasize about scenarios, exchanges.
No, you're obviously very concerned about how others would treat you and degrade you (at least in the back of their heads) which may or may not happen depending on what sort of girl you are and what you are capable of.
Strong women don't even expend energy anticipating, or worrying about such trivial nonsense. They get the job done, and need to work harder than the other men around them need to in order to prove themselves.
Haha I love how sternfox thinks anyone cares about his opinion. And how long he will argue that he is not a complete idiot, even though everyone on this board knows he is. He keeps making up stuff that doesn't even make any sense...so funny.
you kind of set yourself up for some heat with your original post. You're an attractive intern? I bet that will get you hit on at the bar, but i dont think anyone will give two shits at the office.
The fact that you almost expect to be treated differently in the asking of the questions makes me wonder if you'll be able to handle the work environment. Lets face it, we've come a long way, but this is still a man's game. If you can't handle someone making a sexist joke to your face (it will happen) or the harsh reality that some women leave the business not becuase they can't handle it but becuase they want to have a family, then you shouldn't even stick to marketing, you should stick to nothing.
My guess is that the OP is not as attractive as she thinks she is. We all know that no gorgeous girl in college wastes her precious time on some career message board.
