Deloitte S&O On Campus Recruiting Location Conflict
Hello,
I am a Junior at a non-target, large, public school, and I am applying for a Summer Scholar BA internship. Deloitte is the only major consulting firm that recruits at my university, but they only recruit for 3 office locations that would be very inconvenient for me.
Ideally, I would like to get an internship in one of Deloitte's New York City offices, so that if I got a full time offer it would be in the location where I would want to live after I graduate, but Deloitte doesn't recruit for those locations at my school.
I was wondering if anyone could offer any insight as to whether I should apply through the generic application online for a New York office and ignore the recruiting infrastructure at my school, or if I should apply to both or risk leaving a bad impression on the recruiter at my school by saying that I'm not really interested in the offices that they are offering my school. All things considered, I would rather intern at a bad office than have no internship at all.
I appreciate any adivce
If you apply via generic application online, there is no guarantee that you will get an interview even if your school happens to be the one where Deloitte recruits. OCR is the best way to make sure that your resume will at least be viewed. Once you get the interview and offer, you can request them to have you based out of NY office. When you say inconvenient, is that because it is in one of the locations where you do not like to live after graduation or would cause you discomfort in some other way?
I am not sure about applying to both positions - let others chime in.
Your best bet is to apply using your schools infrastructure and see if you can negotiate if you receive an offer. If you have to stay in that first location the first summer, it's okay. Work hard to meet some partners in the New York office; from what I understand, if you get a full-time offer, there is a process you go through in order to request an office change and partner support is needed. Hope this helps.
The same was true at my school, but I know of a couple people that made the switch. They both interned at the location the school recruited for, and after receiving a FT offer, asked if they could live somewhere else.
If you intern at Deloitte S&O, you get the option to move to a different office for your full-time location.
It's easier to do some city transfers than others. Ex. Chicago - > NYC, rather than Houston - > NYC.
