Does this sound like Front office or Back office?
Here's the description:
Interns will work in the US Government Strategy division of the Merrill Lynch Fixed Income Research department. They will be in charge of creating the Treasury and Fed Funds Futures reports which are distributed to fixed income traders, salesmen, and institutional clients, creating charts and tables which will be included in our research articles, and using the latest derivative pricing analytical software to analyze the futures and options market. Furthermore, interns will have the opportunity to learn about derivative structures such as futures, options, and swaps and will be able to spend time on the fixed income sales and trading floor.
If you are spending time on the trading floor then I think it is considered front-office. I'm not positive that's correct though. For an internship its a little hard to define, as even "front-office" internships are often not actually client-facing.
this is definitely front office. first sentence says it all...it's fixed income research.
Unless you're interacting w/ clients or directly generating revenues, it's most likely back office.
i think its back office. "Creating reports" might be fancy for back-office, end of day work you would see at a hedge fund. not sure though.
Since it's a research position, there's not likely to be any client contact/revenue generation anyways (besides selling reports - not a big money maker). Sounds front office to me.
I think it sounds like middle office. It's definitely not back office, considering you are on the trading floor.
Front office. Back/middle office would be booking trades, counterparty confirmations, monitoring collateral.
It's research - research is front office.
