equity research vs F500 corpfin
hey all,
SA recruitment did not go as planned, but I'm glad I still have some options for the summer. I can do BB PWM (GS/JPM) or Equity Research at a Bloomberg/Morningstar type firm.
im leaning towards ER because i like the idea of covering an industry and working with financial models. would i be better off doing this, or actually landing a job in the industry in a corporate finance role?
any advice would be appreciated. thanks!
Do the Equity Research gig. The work and experience will be ALOT more valuable.

ER vs F500 corp finance rotational program (Originally Posted: 10/27/2010)
I have two very different offers out of undergrad that I'm having a hard time deciding between, and am hoping some of you could shed some light on which would be better long term.
A) Finance rotational program at extremely successful f500 tech company (think Apple, Google) B) Equity research associate (entry level) position at investment management firm (manages around $50 billion, mostly institutional investors)
I know that this is comparing Apples and Oranges, but generally speaking which would likely be better long term in term? Which would provide exit ops that are more flexible, lucrative, etc. Would f500 rotational program pigeon-hole me into only being able to work in internal finance roles at big corporations? Would ER provide opportunities to go into anything other than research? Is one better than the other for b-school.
I'm on the fence because I think I would enjoy "life" a little more at option A since it's an awesome company, I have friends that work there, and rotating every few months would keep things fresh, but I think I would enjoy the actual work much more at option B.
I know all of this is sort-of covered in other posts, but I couldn't find any comparing ER and corp fin. Any advice or insight would be awesome. Thanks!
