Following Up With Your Network

I began sending out emails and talking to college Alumni earlier this month and have so far had phone calls with 7 analysts and one VP.

This is my sophomore summer and I have a good 6-8 months till Junior BB SA recruiting begins. My question is how do I follow up with these people I contacted?

They are all extremely busy people and I feel like sending them articles or telling them about interesting things I am doing, will either be disregarded or just seem annoying.

I had good conversations with all of them that ranged from 20-40 minutes and a few of them said feel to reach out when we get closer to recruiting.

So should I just wait until recruiting time to contact them again?

I'd probably add them on LinkedIn in the coming month if you haven't already. Don't force it in the summer, but definitely ask them questions if you have any or update on something they seemed interested about when you talked to them.

Other than that, you will have a big reason to talk them when school starts at least. I'm in your same shoes and I'm gonna follow up with a lot of people for SA recruting right when I start school when their dates for recruiting are more finalized. Then I'll probably visit NYC sometime in the early winter to meet with whoever's available.

I'd agree with adding them on LinkedIn, but rather than keep your same networking base consistent, I would explore opportunities to expand it. I would reach back out to each of them scheduling a phone call. In the phone call, I would just touch base quickly telling them about a class or two you are taking in the fall, what you are doing this summer to prepare for IB, ask advice about how to prepare for a SA position, then I would ask them for a contact or two that you could reach out to to get a different perspective from at their bank. For example, when talking to the analysts, see if they would recommend an Associate, VP, or Director that you could reach out to for an informal informational interview.

Sounds like you are in a good position, but don't let up!!!
