Getting the most out of your time
Hey fellow monkeys,
I am just curious how you get the most out of your free time/your time management techniques? Currently I try to do this by minimizing the time spent dealing with email, food and wardrobe. Below is a list of things I try to get the most out of my time to be as efficient as possible.
Email
I am a big fan of multiple folders in order to sort out massive amounts of emails I receive on daily basis (mainly coming from higher ups that constantly change their mind about font sizes)
- I have a folder titled “Deals” and within that many sub-folders. Once the deal is done I put the dates of the deal next to the name, e.g. XYZ (01.01.2010-02.01.2010)
- Multiple filters for anything non-urgent: the morning news brief, weekly newsletters of all sorts, etc
- Anything that is not deal related goes under: “Non-urgent”, which a code name for “this is not important at all”
- Anything that I need to do later on in the week/month I put under “To do” and then move to the folders accordingly. This mainly consists of things like looking over my new health coverage, HR paperwork
- Important: everyone should have a folder called “Expenses”. Trust me on this you will lose hundreds if not thousands of dollars my not submitting all your expenses. I usually email myself with all the expenses for a certain trip and in the tittle mention “Expenses – Chicago – 01.01.2010”.
Wardrobe
Just like with everything you want to save as much time as possible. I have roughly 15 dress shirts that look very similar. I usually do all my laundry on the weekend all at once. Later on, I iron all my shirts and press my pants ahead of time.This is done in case a hell week is coming and I don’t have to do any ironing or waste time making any choices, which usually translates into an extra half an hour of sleep a day.
Food
I try to plan ahead and buy in bulk over the weekend. I then pre-package all my fruits and veggies in ziplock bags. Throughout the week I can just grab bags of fruits and veggies, keep up with the healthy diet and save time.
keep a stack of printer paper at your desk in case printers run out of paper saves the time of running to the supply room when you can run right to your desk
I do the same with my food. Another miracle time-saver: crockpots/slow cookers. Throw food in when you leave in the morning. Come home to warm, cooked food.
