GS Merchant Bank Question
does anyone know if GS's merchant bank recruits undergrads? If so, how many do they usually take a year? How are their interviews compared to IBD ect?
Thanks

Yes and no, they do recruit undergrads but there is no special pool for MBD. They will take a few of the absolute best IBD candidates and offer them MBD positions. This year, I believe they only took 3 or 4 in New York, and the interview process was the same as IBD.

Does anyone know the difference between the Goldman Sachs Asset Management AIMS Private Equity Group and the Goldman Sachs Merchant Bank? I understand the MB invests the firms capital and GSAM PE invests institutional investor capital as well as their own. Which group is more selective? Which offers better experience?
pretty sure GS MB is 'PE', and GSAM PE is not 'PE'
A google search of "GSAM PE" would tell you the answer. I'll give you a hint: GSAM PE is a fund-of-funds.
GSAM PE is fof, sometimes co-investments, but never do control, or lead the investment. GS MBD is basically where PIA, REPIA etc. sit. It's THE private equity we are talking about

Can anyone share what they know about GS Merchant Bank? Its pretty much the GS PE arm, correct? From what I know they place people from their regular IBD recruiting cycles. So is it fair to say the only way in as an UG recruit, 3yr Analyst-to-Assoc promote, or MBA recruit?
I'm guessing an Analyst comp in GS Merchant bank is higher than GS IBD comp, is this true?
Any and all info is appreciated.
