I heard about this group several times in the past in WSO, but can not find it in GS website. What's nature of this group? IBD? S&T, or Principal Investing? How to get in as an SA? What are the exit opportunities?

GSRG takes proprietary risk
GSRG takes proprietary risk on behalf of the firm. They do this because it's a source of stable capital, and if you're smart you can make good money on your underwriting as well.
"There are three ways to make a living in this business: be first, be smarter, or cheat."
Curious at exit opps as well

I know a kid that interviewed
I know a kid that interviewed there, it's basically principal investing... They look for people with FIG experience, not just from Goldman but from other firms as well. Pretty cool stuff, as far as I could tell, but I don't know much about it. Not sure if they have SAs.
I interviewed with them and
I interviewed with them and SSG first round and turned down final rounds but they do take SAs. Honestly it didn't sound that interesting. In terms of what division, they're in securities.
GSRG sits in the investing
GSRG sits in the investing and lending division at Goldman and it is considered a "principal investing" desk. They recruit for SA as part of the investing summer program which is different from the traditional Securities (Sales and Trading) rotational program. For more info see below:
"The Goldman Sachs Reinsurance Group (GSRG) is a proprietary principalling/investing business that pursues opportunities across several unique and non-correlated risk classes, traditionally the province of the reinsurance market. These areas include both property and casualty catastrophe reinsurance and the life and annuity space, with an additional focus on the growing market for the assumption and disposition of longevity/mortality risks - those risks created by the dynamic of aging populations. Summer analysts will be exposed the the entire spectrum of the business and will have an opportunity to work with teams sourcing new acquisitions, valuing blocks of insurance, analyzing equity investments, assessing risk, managing acquire operating business, structuring and trading longevity/mortality derivatives and tranced products, and marketing related products to investors. This position requires strong analytical skills, comfort with quantitative concepts, attention to detail, and a relentless and creative commercial focus."
hope this helps.
