Got 2 Offers from Big4s. Consulting and Audit. Which one?

Got an offer for ERS Consultant from Deloitte and auditing with E&Y.

Both are CA routes (ERS Consulting is nontraditional, won't be able to sign off on audits). My long term career goal is jump into the industry and work my way up to Senior Management.

Any advice is much appreciated...thanks!

^^ Agree - You do not want to be involved in consulting on IC. You have to be careful when looking at Big 4 consultin gigs, as many of them are non-tradational and can be very IT / audit focused and are actually WAY less interesting than audit

I have a friend considering the same two options just switch the names of the firms around a little bit. He is leaning towards ERS, and I think he's crazy. I would absolutely hate working a job in ERS, no offense to any here that do, it's more of a personality decision. If you just love internal controls, then it might be a good option. The exit opportunities in ERS seem to be even worse than audit since you're considering working your way up to upper management in industry.

They both have about equal exit ops, just to different areas. Financial audit lands you a gig as a controller, or maybe senior manager / director of finance / financial reporting at a large corporation.

IT Audit / Internal Controls can put you in line for Risk Management gigs, Regulatory, Compliance, Internal IT Audit, etc. Same levels (Senior Manager / Director), both depending on when you exit the Big4.

Comp is about the same for any of those exit ops. Industry and company will have a far bigger impact on comp at that level than any difference between Financial Audit vs. Internal Control background.

I would say the Deloitte name carries a little more weight than EY, but not by much.

as the above posters said, why would you ever consider ERS over audit?

ERS is very IT oriented and will plague your resume for the rest of your career. on the other hand, audit has the best exit opps (not great, but in comparison) and can actually be great for Bschool if you want to do that. my friend out of E&Y audit started at a top 5 MBA last year. in contrast, another friend of mine in ERS (at Deloitte) is still stuck there after 4 years because he can't find any other line of work.

now you decide.

^^ hhhmm I am a pretty big tech fan, its a long-time passion of mine and I wouldn't mind entering the IT industry to be perfectly honest, that is why I applied to ERS in the first place. Now I am trying to decide between IT or accounting (either way I am getting my CA designation)
