What a sad mess for the boxing community this fight ended up being. I'm a new fan to the boxing world with pacquiao coming onto the scene, but this sort of makes it all to clear why the sport is dying(at least vs MMA).
Honestly even if you just put all the film of the two actually throwing punches, which btw would probably total up to about a 1/4 of the actual air time at most, it still would be boring. With all the hype to the fight also.... Alas, i was forced to watch a big mouth no show dance around and wait for a huge massive Ukrainian stick at an opponent he could have finished within 6...

Why can't you stand MMA? Now that the new breed of fighters have arrived, the fights are fucking awesome.
not certain, but ultimately I THINK, not certain here, but think that the best fighter doesn't always win. It feels like strategy is a much lower aspect compared to matching up styles and fighters in determining wins
Your mistake was buying into the hype of a heavyweight boxing bout. Pacquiao and those at or around his weight have been shouldering the sport for the past decade. Everyone knows this.
I was excited for it, but i wouldn't say I bought into it, not like the britts did(running up there man 2:1 odds in the UK). But they both had great records and Hayes, although i really don't like him, looked like he would AT THE LEAST put up a good fight.

I grew up doing martial arts (Tae Kwon Do and Judo) so I am a little impartial towards MMA, but I for the life of me can not understand how people could possibly enjoy watching boxing. They clinch for at least half the fight and it is a sport dominated by out of shape people.

Look at the differences in physique and ability. Put any boxer against someone who knows Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai and you will see the boxer get destroyed.
Just because someone has fat on their body doesn't mean they're out of shape.
Hi D M, in martial sports, at least in MMA, athletes are classified by their weights ("bentamweight", "featherweight", etc). We all know that muscle is more advantageous than fat. So in each weight class, a person with a lower body fat% will be in a better shape than someone with a higher body fat%. In that sense, people with fat on their body are indeed out of shape.
Furthermore, high amount of fat on someone is also an indicator that he or she has a bad cardio, as to improve cardio, your heart rate has to be at 80%+ of your maximum heart rate, and you start burning fat at 60%+ your maximum heart rate. So in this sense, people with fat on their body are out of shape.
From an aesthetic point of view.. In shape means.. You're in shape. Fat is the very definition of anti-shape. Have fun showing off the shape of your abs with that 20% bf. So also in this sense, people with fat on their body are out of shape.

fight itself was quite boring to watch, pleasure of seeing that fucking douchebag Haye lose made up for all of it.

All I am going to state is, there is a correlation between the time that the heavyweight division in boxing started to be dominated by (whites) see eastern europeans and the decline in the interest of boxing worldwide.
I will also bet that the more minority fighters (see mostly black) that are champions in the UFC will have a direct correlation to its rise in popularity.
GSP has been thoroughly dominate in every aspect of MMA for a long time yet he gets no where near the hype that Jon Jones gets.
At one point in the NHL many analysts considered Jerome Iginla the best player in the league when he surely never was but the main factor for him being the best player (although he is good) was that he was half black. Any league anywhere clamours to get a black star in their sport.
In fact I believe it was the head of Formula 1 Racing Ecclestone who said something along the lines of "Well we already have Lewis Hamilton but what would really make us popular would be to have a black female jewish winning driver"
Well he actually something along the lines of this
"What I would really like to see happen is to find the right girl, perhaps a black girl with super looks, preferably Jewish or Muslim, who speaks Spanish."25

If you don't think that this is how the people who run these organzations think then you have another thing coming to you.
I can tell you right now that Mens Tennis is looking for the next superstar but they would prefer him to be black. It would bring in a boatload of more advertising dollars for them just like Tiger Woods does singlehandedlyin Golf.

Not true eokpar. The trend is demonstrable toward non white fighters. That includes brazilian fighters of non caucasian descent.
Maybe in the late 90s early 2000s this was the case but I am heavily in the MMA scene and all anybody can talk about is the "new breed" of fighter that is like NFL or NBA players. Or how these new fighters are more athletic etc etc etc.
I am quite sure they are not talking about white midwestern wrestlers. Even the reporters talk about this.
My point was that the UFC's rise in popularity since 2005 is 50% due to the mainstream sports figures (writers/athletes etc) noticing that more and more fighters are non white.
You even have celebrities rooting for Jon Jones before fights but I have never once seen someone go on Jay Leno or their twitter and hope that George St. Pierre wins his fight.

For us Canadians, its not minority fighters that get us into it, but superb fighters like GSP, Hominick, Bocek, and Macdonald... and as far as I can tell, they're all white.
But as you mentioned, there appears to be a trend toward non white fighters. But I don't think Akiyama was hyped because he was Asian, it's because he's an elite judoka. I don't think Jon Jones was hyped because he was black - his performance speaks for itself. The trend is not that people are biased in favour of visible minorities, but its biased in favour of TALENTED people.
Oh and Jon Jones' brother is in the NFL. and GSP? Well, you haven't watched Canadian television during the week following upto his fight lol.
