Not limiting to hedge funds, but asset management generally, Van Kampen, AIM, Bridgeway, Vaughan Nelson, NFJ, Sarofim, are all major players.

There are also a few AIM spin-offs (Brasada) as well as several MLP funds in Houston, but as far as Texas goes, Dallas is a much much larger hedge fund market (Carlson, HBK, Highland if they survive, et al). Houston is more of a banking market.

So which of these firms is strictly a hedge fund? Or are they all long-only asset management firms?
