How difficult is it to move from BCG in an emerging market to BCG UK/US?

I imagine moving in the opposite direction is pretty easy, however, I could be wrong.

Assume work permit / Visa is not an issue

Pretty hard. You need to be at the top among the top performers across all offices in your emerging market to break through. Also depends on the market, and on your networking efforts to connect with the bosses in the US/UK office.

GoldenCinderblock: "I keep spending all my money on exotic fish so my armor sucks. Is it possible to romance multiple females? I got with the blue chick so far but I am also interested in the electronic chick and the face mask chick."

Generally people say it is hard as UK/US offices are much more competitive; but I know a few individuals who have done that and transferred from Eastern European countries to London.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine completed an internship and got an offer from BCG in emerging EMEA but was told to go through the interview process again in order to apply to a Western European (UK/DE/FR) office even though he knew approx. half of said office.

I assume we're talking permanent transfer? As everyone mentioned above, that could be a bit challenging. If that's a goal and performance is solid though, definitely achievable.

I think the how is the more important part. To make that work I'd always recommend doing cross-office staffing with a European/US team or go for a temporary transfer or find a case in your system with overlap to those offices. With relationships, mobility is a lot simpler...starting from scratch can make it a bit harder.
