Hunt and Peck Typing

I have a typing issue. I'm a hunt and pecker. This is where you only use two fingers on each hand while typing. I'm not that slow of a typist (46 WPM), but it is rather embarrassing and I want to improve.

People are typically shocked to see me type like this. It is strange to see. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can turn my typing around in a short time? If I am not able to improve, will this hurt me from the start?

For those not familiar with "Hunt and Pecking":

Apparently "hunt and peck" also means "unable to Google"

I started as a hunt and peck when I first started really using computers. Probably took me 3-4 years of "hunt and peck" before it eventually just turned into knowing where the keys are.

Obviously there are many free sources. I think he's asking if there's a particularly effective one out there.

PS- It's all about muscle memory, you just have to practice a shitload doing it the right way

Point, swagon, probably jumped on him a little hard. Sorry HAP.

That said, when I was worried about my typing, I just googled it and used the first thing that popped up (this was like 10 years ago). Really, the service doesn't matter at all. All you need to do is find a site that has you type in whatever is on the screen. Then, place your left fingers on "asdf" and right on "jkl;". Then, you start typing. At first, you'll have to look to see where the keys are, and that is fine. As you keep practicing, you'll have to look less and less until eventually you don't anymore.

It's really simple, you just have to do it (like 99% of other things in this world).

How fast can you guys type? I just tested myself and from what I can find on the internet, it seems like i'm doing pretty well. I wanted to see how i compare to other people in finance (b/c we're obviously a lot better than the internet)

70 wpm drunk with one mistake (spheres instead of sphere) sup

109 WPM, with no mistakes. Guess all those years playing MUDs weren't completely wasted.

To be perfectly fair... how fast you type only makes a difference up to a point. You're not a stenographer. Doesn't matter whether you type at 50 WPM or 500 if you really only need 40 to do your job. Not quite sure at what point it stops mattering, though.
