in all seriousness, I'd have a grownup talk with the parents, fuck the brother. hear them out, what their concerns are, what they want for their daughter, etc. if they're mature adults then you may be surprised, it may be more than your race/religion.

I'm inferring some stuff here, but I'm guessing you're not black (most blacks including that side of my family are protestant so I doubt a wasp would have a problem with your religion), you're probably asian or middle eastern (highly doubt they'd care if you were an italian catholic, but who knows). WASPs have different social norms from the rest of the world, so ask yourself what have your interactions been in the past with them? have you done something that's outside of wasp social norms but perfectly normal in your household? they could've taken it as bad manners because of lack of understanding of your culture and thus thought you were a bad fit for their daughter.

the reason I bring this up is I highly doubt a successful 21st century family would ban their daughter from marriage based on race. religion I get to an extent, but race? really? I've seen extreme racism (family didn't approve) in the boonies near where I live, but not in an upper class environment assuming you're polished.

if (and be honest with yourself) after a serious discussion where you're a perfect gentleman, they still don't approve, you've got a choice: either tough it out and try to win their trust, or say fuggit and go for other girls. after all, you don't want to spend all 4 years of college in a relationship like this, do you?

of course, if you are black and they're just a bunch of jim crows then you'll never win that battle, trust me. get out and get out now.

fair enough.

OP, in that case, go horrible bosses on his ass. rat poison in his coke, arsenic in his shampoo, and steal all his sunscreen (he's a pale WASP from Minnesota, he probably burns under a nightlight). that'll show him.

some other alternatives:

  1. steal his identity and buy a bunch of shit with it
  2. bologna on his car (will ruin the paint)
  3. send male strippers to his birthday party (his facebook is pretty public so this should be easy to find)
  4. get your sister to find some bad baby or preteen pics and send them to his fraternity brothers in meme form
  5. steal his diary and post all of the pages randomly across dartmouth's campus
  6. fill his bedroom with mice and snakes.

then rejoice.

To me racism looks like a barbell, the two extremes of class are going to come in hot while the majority of people in the middle probably couldn't care less. I don't come from the 'upper class' so maybe I am just way off base on this. It wouldn't surprise me the least if a very successful family doesn't approve of someone just because of their race.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

I think it just depends but yeah I could be off base too (middle middle class upbringing). we have several clients whom I'd consider upper echelon, but the more I think about it, they weren't born that way. I suppose if you're brought up in the upper class that's one thing, but most of the people I cross paths with who are upper class aren't bigots.

Middle Eastern is correct. I have done nothing wrong. They were nothing but kind to me up until they found out I was Muslim. The talk with their parents was essentially that I should leave her alone and that is that. Problem is that is NOT what she wants.

Older bro sounds 100% baller. The email was a douche move but it sounds excellent...the dude's shit talk game is on point. I'm impressed.

"I suppose my utter intellectual undressing of you would engender an appropriate level of frustration"

Lol I just love that.

In order for you to have a fairy tale ending, she'd have to renounce her prejudiced family? That's not going to work in the long run. Not to mention the whole "daddy issues" aspect, do you think for a second she didn't know how this was going to go down by choosing someone her family would be prejudiced against? On some level, that confrontation was intentional.

Sure, it's wrong on many levels. Yes, her brother is an over-privileged twat, who has probably started a prestige whoring contest on WSO. Being in the right is very overrated (or so I've learned), as in, no matter how right you are, this situation isn't going to make you happy. My advice, cut your losses sooner rather than later. Besides you are surrounded by young women, why tie yourself down to a shitty situation?

And CamelbakGreen comes to his sense, or else someone else has escalated the situation. Perhaps by these mysterious "legal means".

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.
