IB VS IM
I am a undergrad coming up on my final summer and am looking for some advice. I have been offered an IB internship through SEO and also have been offered an IM internship as a fund analyst with a local fund( to be specific its a growth fund with about 1bn unber mgt and has a 5 star morningstar rating.)
I am tempted by the higher pay in IB but am afraid I might regret wasting the opportunity to work for such a good fund later. Any suggestions or comments?
i'd go with the fund. bb ibanking will always be there. a high quality buy-side job is much more of a chance encounter.
Do you want to do IM as a career? What are your short/medium/long-term goals?
Short term: get a good job..feel like I am going some where
Medium: something that will help get into good b school and provide good foundation to work in fund management like at a PE or HF.
Long Term: Actually work at a PE HF or manage a good mutual fund, maybe even stike out on my own but thats getting ambitious
Do SEO. It's one of the best programs that will set you up nicely for full-time.
Investment Managment vs Investment Banking (Originally Posted: 07/26/2006)
I hope someone here can answer my questions; I would greatly appreciated.
How hard is it to get into Investment Managment compared to I-Banking right out from Undergrad?
How is compensation in IM compared to IB as an analyst?
How good are the exiting options from IM vs IB?
How do B-Schools look at IM vs. IB?
Is IM strictly a 3-year program or are there 2-year programs too?
How are the hours in IM vs. IB?
I suppose I-Banks don't like poeple applying for both? Is there a way to justify it though?
How easy is to move from IB into IM?
Thanks
