Is Leveraged Finance & Sponsor Finance Investment Banking?
The title says it all. Is it safe to say to people that I work in ibanking or even post on my linkedin and facebook profile that I work in I banking?

If you don't know whether your own job is investment banking, then you sir are a moron. That being said, Leveraged Finance (LevFin) and Financial Sponsors are typical groups in investment banking firms.
No, there are some bulge brackets that house it under commercial banking ie, Wells Fargo.
So ask yourself what your firm houses it under :p or ask us
im trying not to give away my firm and im sure people could link me to who i am if i do. I just wanted to know for general purposes. Thanks!
You've been here too long to troll, but yes they are both IBD groups and no BB has it under commercial banking if you are talking about levfin and FINANCIAL SPONSORS.
thanks for the clarification.
some levfin is grouped with global capital markets
beware, young monkey
oh and some banks like ubs combine both.
beware, young monkey
Correction: They're split. http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100430-718091.html
It's irrelevant where it falls. Look at your comp. if you're bonus is at least 100% or greater of your base (analyst / assoc) then it's an IB function. If you're getting paid a fractional bonus, then it's a 'commercial banking' role and you should GFY.
Its Investment Banking, and leatherpantz has absolutely 0 clue.
agreed... the "100% or greater of base" rule is BS... most first year analysts don't get paid 70 or 80k bonuses, unless you work for centerview...
All FO IBD positions pay similarly (base is in most cases exactly the same). This includes:
Vanilla IBD (coverage groups + M&A), Capital Markets (ECM/DCM/LevFin), S&T, Research. Not sure if research analysts get super high bonus though although to be fair... they have amazing almost normal hours.
levfin is not in capital markets, at least not at my bank. only at citi is it within that zone.
also most ppl got 40k last year on a 70k base so the 100% rule is definately fase
Some MM's and boutiques do have Lev Fin within Capital Markets but very unsual to see that at BB's
"sponsor finance" is commercial banking lingo.
