Job at NY Fed
Would experience at the New York Fed (right out of college) be looked upon favorably on Wall Street? Is it a good place to start a career and then transition to the private sector, such as i-banking, investment management, or research? Would experience at the Fed be useful when applying to b-school?
I know of one former MD at DB who started off at the Fed as a bank examiner and transitioned, just wondering if anyone else had a similar story.
NY Fed has lots of different types of jobs. if you go there as a jr trader on the repo/mm desk, sure, you could probably eventually transition to a similar desk at a BB. I doubt anyone would look down on experience at the NY Fed.
The Fed, particularly the NY Fed, is doing some of the most interesting finance-related work right now. This is a great opportunity that can definitely position you well for b-school and a job at a BB. I think a lot of people are under-appreciating the value of a formerly boring, now sexy government job these days.
Here's a link to advice on some other finance-related jobs in government that people should consider.
