I'll be attending University of Michigan's LSA program and will be majoring in economics. After graduation, I'm planning on working for a good consulting company (hopefully) and work for 5 years and then get an MBA. But if nothing goes well, I could try out as a financial analyst and work my way through a CFA. The reason for the MBA is so that I could advance to a higher career. Is this a good idea?

please, dude.. u cannot plan
please, dude.. u cannot plan 10 years ahead, and it is actually better to not delude yourself
and imo.. economics major is something i would avoid
Why not an economics major?
Why not an economics major? Don't they get good jobs, especially from target schools?
Econ majors fine and that
Econ majors fine and that sounds like a great idea.. You can always change your mind along the way about what you want to do in 5 years from now as you learn more about what you like/want to do
When evaluating whether or not to post something on WSO, I think to myself, "would an idiot post this" and if the answer is yes, I do not post that thing...

I would have given you a +1 if it wasn't for the econ comment.. I was an econ major :p
There is no way in hell you can plan ahead that far. You don't even know what college is like. You don't know how much the economy could change 5-8 years from now.
Choose a major and see how you like it. Your first year is going to be full of gen-eds anyways, so you can change. Hell, I changed my major in my JUNIOR year.
What's wrong with an econ major?
