MBA advice / career path
Graduated from a state school with 3.5 gpa, have worked back office at bb for 5 yrs. Looking to get into a top notch b-school with hopes of moving to front office.
Chances at 1. Getting into top flight b-school and 2. Moving to IB front office as associate with this background. What gmat score necessary and what schools should I be looking at?
If this is out of question my alternate plan is to move to middle office opportunities within risk, compliance etc.and put b-school on ice.
Contructive responses only please.
If you haven't read all the other 198394734908 MBA admission threads on here you should. Everyone has the same questions. There's no exact formula for getting into b-school. Recs are highly important as is work / leadership experience alongside extracurriculars.
Interesting tool I've seen is to add whatever b-schools you're applying to as another line on your resume under education. If it looks like it belongs there, then you just might have a shot.
And nothing is ever out of the question. Unless you dropped out of high school or something. Leverage your connections at the BB where you work. It'll be tough because you've been doing BO for 5 years, but it's still possible.
if you've been in BO for 5 yrs, you should probably be making 6 figures already. Your hrs/ life style probably isn't that bad. if you get an mba u have to start over.. why would u want to do that.
I
I would say I have higher aspirations / getting bored currently. I wouldn't necessarily say going to b-school is "starting over" given with my undergrad state school background and average GPA this is probably the only path i could have taken to EVER have a shot at a top flight b-school. At this point, maybe your right, and not worth it, but something I am considering. If anyone has similar career experiences please let me know.
thanks for the replies
