Move to Cali? - small fund team - would you do it?

I will probably get an offer (hopefully within the next few days) for an opportunity to join a good fund with great pay in newport beach area. Sounds like a dream job, if I had a wife and kids...but I don't. I will likely be working pretty long hours during the week, but probably have weekends free. The question is whether I will be able to enjoy myself and have fun and meet people given that I don't know anybody in close proximity, and the investment team I will be working on is all much older than me, with wives & kids, etc. I'm in my mid/late twenties & single. Unlike big cities like NYC & SF, I feel like So-Cal it is harder to meet people without a few "base" friends to branch out from.

The thought of moving to Cali sounds amazing...but in reality, is this a recipe to become lonely & depressed? lol I would appreciate any experiences moving from the city to what is essentially suburbia in your 20's. NYC is great, but so is the beaches, sunshine, and the laid back lifestyle of Cali.

Lived in San Diego briefly and we partied in Huntington Beach (5-10 min north of Newport) a few weekends. Never in my life have I seen so many ridiculously attractive women in one place. Like, densely packed. Everywhere. I think the crowd there is a little younger than Newport, but shit. It's right there. I gotta think Newport is similar.

I lived in Newport area for last 4.5 years. Take the job, there are plenty of things to do around there. Lifestyle is more relaxed but people are still very social and it's quite easy to make friends. Go to LA or san diego on weekends. Depending on when you are supposed to start, you can find entire houses for rent directly on the beach for what you would pay for a room in NY. If you aren't a weirdo it is incredibly to meet people daydrinking in your backyard on a sunny saturday.

Don't live in laguna... mostly older people.
