Need career advice plz
hello everybody,
I am a B.Sc. mathematics honors undergradaute with minors in statistics, operations research and computer sciences. Although I have an excellent GPA and good extra-curricular achievements. But I had no internships + i don't come from a target university.
I want to pursue a career as Front office Quantitative Analyst at a hedge fund and am really enthusiastic about it.
Since most ppl want them to be Ph.Ds so Plz advice me which career path to follow:
1. MIT Sloan MFin
2. MFE from Ivy's
3. Directly a Ph.D from Ivy's
If (3) plz advice me Ph.D. in what? Because Ph.D. is done in a specialized field and not whole mathematics like my 50 course undergrad !!!
Sorry for it might be very obvious to some of you but I'm really asking this out of my curiosity only !!!
i would remove your real name from your username.
and no one can advise what phd you should do. this is something you should chose based on your interests. a phd is definitely not something you should do just to get a job as well. they are extremely challenging and should only be done if you have a passion for that field and genuinely want to do research within it.
Like darety pointed out, PhD is something you do on what really interests you. And if you are able to get into MFEs on your 1st and 2nd option, or get into a PhD programme at an ivy league, then I don't understand why you think you can't get a quant role now. Also, as far as I know, MFE programmes -- like MBAs -- require some (~5 years?) professional work experience.
I'm in a similar position so I can't help much, but what I am planning to do is to give all it takes to get an actual internship and then do a one-year MSc in finance, and hopefully I'd be able to impress them in my internship and secure a FT.
Best of luck! Let me know if you need any information about employers/universities in the UK.
