Networking APAC
Guys,
Need advice on something. I am interested in i-banking/consulting positions in Asia and I plan to spend about two weeks in the country I am interested in. I want to network whilst there (hoping that it would lead to a full-time position). I have some informational interviews set up (and am continuing to cold-email in order to set up more).
However, I really want these chats to lead to something. I didn't specifically ask for a job when I initially emailed these people (coz it might put them off or they might just forward it to HR).
How do I bring this up when I speak with them (if at all)? How do I ensure that these conversations lead to something? Also, I have interned in i-banking before, so what kind of things should I be talking about?
Many thanks in advance!
There are three important things to keep in mind regarding i-banking; mobility, mobility, mobility
I am also currently doing information interviews with people. Prepare a list of questions ahead of time depending on how long the interviews are supposed to last. You may want to start with their own experiences within the company and gradually move towards your interests. There is nothing wrong with asking explicitly to forward your CV to a hiring manager or assist you somehow in getting an interview, yet sometimes you want to be as nice as possible especially talking about Asia. Ask them what would be the most efficient way to apply? How did they personally get the job? Are there referral bonuses within the company? And maybe they will suggest themselves to pass your CV or something...
Do I have to wear a suit (i.e with tie) for these conversations? Considering it's a hot country....
