No break pants
I recently bought a new suit and got the pants with no break. I wanted to get other people's opinion on no break, especially when interviewing for finance internships (I'm currently in undergrad). They seemed fine at the store, but now I am wondering if they are too short and not conservative enough for interviews.
To give you a better idea, they just barely touch the top of my shoes, and show a tiny bit of my socks in the side.
Thoughts?
No break pants are pretty fashion-forward. I would go with a slight break.
I don't think it's an issue. In the future a half-break is a good length to aim for.
I rock no break pants with daring socks daily. Do people look? Yes. Do people tease? Yes, at first. Does it hold you back? No. I wore them through every SA gig I had in undergrad and received a return offer for the following summer/full-time from each internship.
If you strutted into an interview like a peacock, yes, people will think your clothing reflects your personality: arrogant. If, however, you are a warm, knowledgeable, and outgoing individual, people will think you're dashing and audacious (in a positive way).
Fix the macro stuff first, then worry about the details. People are forgiving of the small stuff if you nail the big things. This applies to things far larger than your sartorial choices. If you're the guy who can be counted on to take the Thursday afternoon staffing knowing full well it will destroy his weekend (and knock it out of the park), the guy who puts out crisp, clean, mistake-free work time after time, the guy who's cordial even at 2am ... you can also be the guy who comes in at noon on weekdays when you aren't jammed, the guy who steps out for 60 minutes in the gym at 6pm, the guy who doesn't get nailed with the Friday staffing ... all because people have an impression of you as the hardworking, affable guy who gets shit done.
Do people see you as dashing and audacious, APAE?
Please advise. Thanks.
If you can't grasp the droll, tongue-in-cheek nature of someone's reply at 4am when they're still in the office ...
