What are the chances of somebody being selected to interview by just applying online for a BB SA or FT spot?
It's obvious the networking that takes place to get freshman and soph yr internships, but how does it work on a grand scale in your critical years?
it's really easy for me to cold call some regional in freshman/soph year and ask about internships but how are you supposed to network for your real internship and FT?
Especially coming from a non-target that is nowhere near NYC.
And sorry for the long thread title.

first networking skill is the
first networking skill is the search function, after that everything will fall in place. With all seriousness though come on man go on a website get some emails, some phone numbers and do what you gotta do, its not rocket science

1. If you're applying online
1. If you're applying online and your OCR didn't tell you to do it (i.e. you're a non-target) there is an incredibly low probability that anything will result from it [still apply online, but not at the expense of spending time networking]
2. Your early experiences, if they do not lead to other internships directly via references/contacts, will provide your prospective SA or FT interviewers with a 'feel' for your background so obviously someone with an SA position in FP&A at an F500 [attainable from non-targets] will be compared to those w/ PWM, IBD, you-name-it experiences
-IMO the closer to your prospective IBD path the better [e.g. interning w/ a distress PE shop paid/unpaid would make a very easy story for restructuring groups]
3. This is advice you may or may not like: LEAVE YOUR NON-TARGET, being at a target only makes the whole process much more difficult, IN NO WAY is going to a target going to guarantee you a spot, but it will improve your chances.
4. Conclusions:
a. Find a suitable SA position [Fresh/Sophomore] in PWM, ER, F500, Big 4, whatever
b. Ready your applications for a transfer
c. Execute the transfer
d. Smash your grades, network, and land SA/FT
